Donegal 1992 All Ireland Champions

Donegal 1992 All Ireland Champions

In 1992, Donegal reached the top of Gaelic football for the first time in their history, winning their first ever Sam Maguire.

On 20 September 1992, Donegal faced Dublin in the All-Ireland final. Dublin were the more experienced side, while Donegal were still chasing a breakthrough moment that the county had waited generations for.

In a tense, hard-fought match, Donegal’s discipline and hunger told. Brian Murray struck the game’s only goal, a huge moment that swung the final in Donegal’s favour.

Donegal held firm to the end, defeating Dublin 2-11 to 0-14, and when the final whistle blew, Sam Maguire was heading to Tír Chonaill for the very first time.
